Van Gogh dropped the yellow
Van Gogh was obsessed with yellow. Sunflowers, wheat, starry night skies with yellow stars, his bedroom walls, café terraces. Yellow was his signature. He even fought with Gauguin about it. Then he spent a year in the asylum. When he came out and arrived in Auvers, something shifted. He started loading his palette with greens and blues. The warmth was gone. Some people read it as hope. Green is growth, new life, fresh start after the breakdown. Others read it the opposite way. Like the fire went out.
