Monet's Alarm Clock
Painting the early morning like it was a movie. Except the anachronism, Monet had been thinking about it for a while, but the actual project started in the summer of 1896, a short walk from Giverny. He found the spot: where the Epte meets the Seine. Then he ran the numbers. 90 minutes of sunrise, 3 to 4 minutes per canvas. Months of mornings starting at 3:30 AM. Total: 21 paintings of the same view, none of them the same light twice. This is one.
